Cataract Surgery
Dr Nor Diyana provides comprehensive cataract assessment and surgery at Pantai Hospital Klang, Selangor, with guidance on intraocular lens selection, preparation for surgery and postoperative care.
When Should You Consider Cataract Surgery?
What Happens Before and During Surgery?
Before surgery, your eyes will be examined and measured to determine the appropriate intraocular lens power. Your medical history, medications and any existing eye conditions will also be reviewed.
During surgery, the cloudy lens is removed through a small incision and replaced with a clear artificial lens. The procedure is usually performed under local anaesthesia as a day-care procedure, allowing most patients to return home the same day.
Cataract surgery may be considered when blurred vision or glare begins to affect everyday activities such as reading, driving or recognising faces, despite updated glasses.
Dr Nor Diyana will assess your cataract, overall eye health and visual needs, and discuss the benefits and risks to help you decide when surgery is appropriate.
Your intraocular lens (IOL) is selected according to your eye health, daily activities and visual goals. Monofocal lenses provide focus at one main distance, while toric lenses help correct astigmatism. Multifocal lenses may reduce dependence on glasses across different distances in suitable patients.
Dr Nor Diyana will explain the benefits and limitations of each suitable lens, including possible glare or halos. Glasses may still be needed for some activities after surgery.
Vision usually improves gradually after surgery, although recovery varies between individuals. You will receive instructions on prescribed eye drops, eye protection and when to resume your usual activities.
Follow-up appointments allow Dr Nor Diyana to monitor healing, eye pressure and visual recovery. Avoid rubbing your eye and follow the advice given on driving, swimming and strenuous activities.
Seek urgent eye care if you develop severe pain, increasing redness or a sudden deterioration in vision.
